Delhi air unbreathable, may worsen todayThe western disturbance occurring throughout northwest India has left the atmosphere cloudy and an isolated drizzle is expected in Delhi on Saturday. This, according to experts, would only worsen the condition as lesser rainfall will not wash out the pollutants but would increase humidity. The air quality is expected to get better from Sunday.
Winds give Delhi a breather, PM 2.5 levels expected to fall furtherThe air quality in Delhi is still three times the safe limit, and remains a health risk for citizens. Delhi, usually the world’s most polluted city, ranked 17th in the list with Kolkata and Dhaka as world leaders in air contamination on Wednesday evening, according to data from AirVisual, , which monitors air pollution levels across the globe.
Delhi air quality improves but farm fires won’t stopAir quality improved even though the number of fires in the fields of Punjab and Haryana rose to this season’s record of 4,962, said an assessment report by Safar. The Supreme Court has asked Haryana and Punjab to stop fires in fields, but farmers said they do not have a choice, and will not tolerate any action against them.
Rains, winds may bring some relief but farm fires to increaseThe rain can further improve Delhi’s air quality, which was already better than Sunday, when the city’s pollution had risen to a record with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at more than 1,000. On Monday, it fell below 200 and Beijing displaced Delhi to become the world’s most polluted city, according to Airvisual data.
Drizzle worsens Delhi air to record 1,200+ on indexIn the global hall of shame, Delhi was on top with its 1,200-plus AQI, followed by Lahore at 163, Dhaka at 157 and Kolkata at 156.
