NEW DELHI: Kia Motors India Friday launched entry SUV Sonet priced between Rs 6.71-11.99 lakh (ex-showroom) to take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300.

While the Hyundai Venue is priced between Rs 6.75-11.58 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is tagged between Rs 7.34-11.4 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom). The new SUV, Kia Sonet, is available in both petrol and diesel fuel options, and will compete in a segment which posted monthly sales of 30,000-40,000 units prior to the pandemic.

The company has already received 25000 bookings for the car. Kia said it is receiving around 1000 new bookings for the car daily.

Kia Motors India Managing Director Kookhyun Shim said, “India is a key market for Kia globally. We have capacity to produce 300,000 units at our plant in Anantapur. Fortunately, we have not faced any disruptions in supply. We have recently started the second shift and are prepared to meet customer demand for the car both in India and international markets.”

Kia plans to sell 150,000 units of the vehicle in the first year of launch. “We aim to sell 100,000 units in the domestic market and 50,000 units in exports in the first year”, informed Tae Jin Park, executive director and chief sales officer, Kia Motors India. The Sonet will be exported from India to 70 countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia.

Overall, the Korean automaker expects volume in the ongoing fiscal 2021 to be better than last year on the back of the new product. Kia is expecting to sell about 130,000 units in FY21, despite the slowdown induced by the coronavirus pandemic.
