The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra faces a difficult choice as the Railways have given a go-ahead to the special trains for the Ganpati festival.

According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the Maharashtra government is caught between a rock and a hard place as it considers running of special trains to the Konkan region for the Ganpati festival. If it approves the proposal, it might increase the number of Covid-19 cases in the Konkan region and If it doesn't, it risks inconveniencing the core Shiv Sena voter, the report added.

This comes after the state government had given a nod for the special train on the account of upcoming Ganpati festival that would facilitate travel of those from Mumbai and Pune to the Konkan region.

The director, Disaster Management Unit, Maharashtra, had conveyed to the Centre that special trains may be scheduled for the Konkan region for the Ganpati festival on August 7.

The Railway Board approved the proposal on the condition that the safety protocols of the MHA and the inter-district travel norms of Maharashtra government will be followed.
