Time flies, but the value of patience in an individual's career goes on to define the person. That is what Amit Agarwal believes.

Agarwal, who is three months away from clocking 22 years in Amazon, took to Twitter on Tuesday to share something that the modern world could use more of: patience, and its advantages.

Calling it an 'underestimated virtue' in today's world, the 45-year-old emphasised that having patience can test humility, resilience and long-term thinking beyond just optics and invention at scale.

The Global Senior VP had joined Amazon in 1999 as a software developer, and has managed to carve his success with patience and hard work.

Last month during the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020 organised by the state government, Agarwal gave a keynote speech on how Indian talent touches almost every part of Amazon’s global offerings.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Ashwathnarayan CN, mentioned on Twitter that he felt proud when the top boss said, "Bengaluru is at the heart of technology and innovations".

Quoting the tweet, Agarwal said that Amazon is energised by the entrepreneurial spirit of the city and the fellowship of the ecosystem. "I went down the memory lane, thinking of Amazon's beginnings in India as a Bengaluru start-up," he wrote.

And away from all the work, the tech boss had a relaxed weekend. He posted a picture with his better half, relaxed and calm.

He, along with his wife and children, sat together and reflected on the things they were grateful for.

“I want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in 2020 and I hope my 13-year-old daughter can accompany me. Two years ago, I had climbed the Everest Base Camp.

“Professionally, I want to go deeper into Artificial Intelligence (AI). I don’t know much about the subject. So, I will be spending a lot of time reading on it. I will be dabbling in articles on AI and coding sites on the internet. There are many DIY websites too that I am going to log in to learn about regression analysis using the AI model.”

“Professionally, I would like to learn a little more on Artificial Intelligence and how its use can be made widespread in everyday process automation and work life. “I have been so focused on mobility with my previous role at Uber that I feel it is time for me to step up and learn more about blockchain and fintech now. My startup is about simplifying global travel. I will be reading on how blockchain or any other technology can be used to make crossing borders easier for travellers.

“Personally, I want to travel with my wife, three-and-a-half-year-old daughter and my dog. While I travel quite a bit with my dog domestically, Croatia is on top of the list to visit with my wife and daughter. It has beaches, hills, interesting culture, and great beer. It will pack in all for a good family trip.”.
