LOS ANGELES: Singer Janet Jackson will be honoured with the first-ever Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual recognition in a ceremony at the upcoming 15th annual BET Awards.

"We are excited beyond belief to present her with our inaugural ULTIMATE ICON: Music Dance Visual award and we are thrilled that she chose the BET Awards as the first step on her new road," Stephen G Hill, BET's president of programming, said in a statement.

"An inspiration to many other artists, 'Ms Jackson' ('cause I'm nasty) blends music, dance and visuals in unique and groundbreaking ways and we look forward to celebrating her storied history... As well as giving the BET Awards audience a peek into her Unbreakable future," he added.

Before accepting her award, Jackson, 49, will be feted with a special dance tribute from Chris Brown, Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe. The tribute will also feature the star's newly-released comeback single "No Sleeep".

The 2015 BET Awards will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross. Brown, Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj are set to perform while Michael B Jordan, Zendaya Coleman and Laverne Cox will be among presenters.
