‘It’s our turn now.’ Akshay Kumar urges fans to donate to Ram temple construction

The actor said that the construction of the temple was a matter of great pleasure.

In the video, the 'Welcome' star narrated a story from the ‘Ramayana’ as he entreated people to contribute.
NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Sunday urged his fans to contribute towards the construction of the Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya district.

The 'Welcome' star in a Twitter post said that the construction of the temple was a matter of great pleasure and now it was “our turn to contribute.” "I have started, hope you will join, too," he wrote.

In the video, the 53-year-old actor narrated a story from the ‘Ramayana’ as he entreated people to contribute according to their capacity and become a part in the building of the historic temple. "Today, it's our turn," the 'Kesari' actor said, adding that he has already made his contribution.

On Friday, India kicked off a nationwide drive to rack up donations for the construction of the Ram temple. The campaign will go on till February 27. So far, the Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra has received a donation of around Rs 100 crore, ANI quoted the trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai.

Apart from Kumar, President Ram Nath Kovind has also contributed Rs 5,00,100 towards the construction of the grand temple.

Kumar, who was last seen in 'Laxmmi', around Dilwai last year had announced that he will be seen in director Abhishek Sharma's 'Ram Setu ', which will depict the story of the Ram Setu bridge. The actor will also be seen in other projects such as 'Sooryavanshi', 'Bell Bottom', 'Bachchan Pandey' and 'Atrangi Re'.

Calling him a 'Hindu Sher', many applauded the actor for his tweet urging people to make donations. However, majority of Twitter reacted quite differently. "This is just another “PR exercise” for the upcoming movie “Ram-Setu” 1. Image Makeover 2. PR Last movie was badly hit with controversy & rightly so Laxmmi was just a Propaganda Movie : Couldn’t find any other reason for making it," a user wrote on Twitter in a reply.

Several people dug up old video clips of Kumar and shared it on Twitter to mock him. "He was also the same guy who said don't waste money going to Mandir," a Twitter user wrote.
