Dhoni had donated the money via a crowdfunding website Ketto, to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, a public charitable trust, in Pune.
As the country enters day three of the 21-day nation-wide lockdown, several well-known personalities from the film fraternity, politics and sports have stepped up to do their bit and help those in need. Former captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni, too, announced a donation of Rs 1 lakh to combat the pandemic that has gripped the nation.

Dhoni had donated the money via a crowdfunding website Ketto, to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, a public charitable trust, in Pune. While several netizens praised Dhoni for his much-needed contribution, some members of the Twitterati were of the opinion that Rs 1 lakh is too small an amount and that the 38-year-old cricketer could have donated more.

The comparison of Dhoni’s donation with that of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, both of whom have donated Rs 50 lakh each, didn’t help Dhoni’s cause.

This user was quick to point out that the cricketer’s net worth is approximately Rs 800 cr.

In fact, even those who claimed to be die-hard Dhoni fans had a hard time defending him.

This netizen calculated the amount per meal that each of the 100 families in Pune would get if Dhoni donates Rs 1 lakh.

Needless to say, the wicketkeeper-cum-batsmen faced the ire of netizens like never before.

Some even compared Dhoni’s donation to that of Tennis champion Roger Federer who donated 1 million Swiss francs earlier this week to fight the pandemic.

The donations will be used to provide daily essential groceries to the families of daily wage-workers.

Soon after the reports started pouring in, the cricketer's wife, Sakshi Dhoni, refuted the news, and posted a message on the microblogging site.
