NEW DELHI: After the Galaxy Note 7 debacle last year, the Galaxy Note 8 is a critical launch for Samsung. Priced at .`67,900, it’s currently on pre-order and will be available from September 21for Indian consumers.

The all metal and glass body Galaxy Note 8 is waterproof and features a slide-in S-pen stylus slot on the bottom. One issue with the design is that the glass back is prone to smudges and fingerprints. The front is dominated by a 6.3-inch, curved, Super AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,960 x 1,440 pixels — the screen looks amazing and is one of the best available on a smartphone today. In comparison, the Apple iPhone X has a 5.8-inch, OLED screen with a resolution of 2,436 x 1,125 pixels.

Hardware specifications are top notch–octacore processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage (expandable) and a 3,300mAh battery. For connectivity, Samsung offers a dual SIM slot, 4G with VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, the latest Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC for pairing and wireless payments.

In terms of software, the Note 8 runs Android 7.1.1 and comes with a number of new software features for the S-pen stylus. For security, the phone offers a fingerprint scanner and face unlocking besides an iris scanner.

Cameras are a major highlight-–the Galaxy Note 8 is the first smartphone from Samsung with a dual 12MP camera. The photos look excellent in daylight and since both lenses of the rear camera have optical image stabilisation (OIS), it manages to capture good details even in low light. On the front is a wide angle 8MP camera that selfie lovers will appreciate for its image quality.

The Galaxy Note 8 appears to have everything a consumer would demand in a flagship-level device. In terms of price, it goes head to head with the new Apple iPhone 8/8 Plus and offers superior specifications and feature set.
