SirionLabs CEO dresses up in regular business attire for his home-office; listens to Indian classical music to switch off from work

Ajay Agrawal shares his fitness and work schedule that helps him perform better.

Remote working is not a new phenomenon for SirionLabs considering their geographically dispersed workforce. As well as the active travel schedules that Ajay Agrawal, CEO and Co-founder of the company and most of his leadership team have had in the past.

He told ET Panache, "Now that the Covid-19 situation has made it binding to work from home, I decided to carve a separate work-space at home which allows me to create a mental break between home and work as best I could. I treat my home office as my regular office and tend to dress in business attire. I have regular meetings with the leadership team to keep track of the numerous initiatives that are typically ongoing at any single point of time. Even more so during virtual meetings, the key is staying on point and ensuring every meeting has a meaningful outcome."

Missing Normal
There is nothing like working in-person with the team, walking over to a colleague to discuss an issue and quickly work out a solution, or pat a colleague on the back for their good work. It requires a little more effort now as one needs to go through a couple of steps to interact with people virtually.

Agrawal likes to keep the first half of the day free from calls and meetings. "This allows me to focus on activities requiring analysis and also gives me some time for personal routines. Thereafter, bulk of my day is filled with calls with colleagues, clients and partners in Europe and the US. However, I find that I need some time at the end of the day to 'switch off', whether listening to Indian classical music or watching an episode of 'The Wire' or 'Breaking Bad'," he said.

Fitness flight
Apart from biking, Agrawal has also installed a very basic home gym in these days when it is not safe to venture out for cardio like running and cross-training. He has seen a significant improvement in fitness levels.

"In fact, I’m fitter now than I was 20 years ago. We recently had an initiative in the company ‘Run with the CEO’ where we invited all of our employees to join me virtually in these exercise sessions. Following the un-lockdown in June, I bought a bicycle and have been riding with old friends as a way of socialising safely and getting some fresh air at the same time," he ended.
