KOLKATA: Actor-turned-Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan, who was admitted to a private hospital on Sunday night with a respiratory problem, was discharged on Monday evening. Her family has denied rumours of a “sleeping pill overdose”.

“She only had a respiratory distress and had no drug overdose issue. She is now fit and will resume her normal schedule from Wednesday,” said a family member.

While Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals refused to comment on why she had to be admitted, a statement issued by ‘Team Nusrat Jahan’ said she had been “admitted to the hospital due to a respiratory issue. She has a record of asthma in the past as well.”

On Sunday evening, hours before being rushed to the hospital, she posted an Instagram message wishing her husband Nikhil Jain on his birthday. Nusrat, who underwent treatment at the ICU, was elected from the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat this year. While her illness kept her fans and party supporters on the edge, hundreds logged on to social media to leave messages, praying for her speedy recovery.
