NEW DELHI: In a fresh development in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, actress Vidya Balan has come out in support of Rajput's girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty ,who is being investigated the ED (Enforcement Directorate), the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and the NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) for her alleged involment in the late actor's demise.

On Sunday, South star Lakshmi Manchu lamented that media had made a monster out of Chakraborty and asked them to refrain from "being evil and cruel" towards her.

"I have complete trust in the judiciary system and all the agencies that are involved in bringing justice to Sushant. But until then can we restrain ourselves from being evil and cruel and lynching of person and her entire family without knowing the facts," Manchu wrote on Twitter.

Replying to Manchu, Balan posted a statement and said that the coverage into Rajput's death is unfortunate.

"It is so unfortunate that the tragic and untimely death of a beloved young star Sushant Singh Rajput has become a media circus. In the same breath, as a woman, my heart breaks at the vilification of Rhea Chakraborty."

The "Shakuntala Devi" star further requested people to let the law take its course and refrain from passing judgements.

"Let's show some respect for the constitutional rights of a citizen and let the law take its course," Balan added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the model-turned-actress' parents, Indrajit Chakraborty and Sandhya Chakraborty were called by the CBI for the first round of questioning in connection with Rajput's death.

So far, the ED (Enforcement Directorate) has grilled the actress twice, following an FIR registered by Rajput's father KK Singh at the Patna police station on July 25. Her father Indrajit, mother Sandhya, brother Showik, Rajput’s manager Samuel Miranda and Shruti Modi, and unknown persons have also been named in the Bihar Police FIR, and accused of cheating and abetting the actor’s suicide.

On August 19, the Supreme Court had ordered a CBI probe and dismissed Chakraborty's plea seeking transfer of the FIR from Patna to Mumbai. The CBI team had arrived in Mumbai on August 20, and has since questioned Rajput's flatmate Siddharth Pithani, cook Neeraj Singh and caretaker Dipesh Sawant.
