NEW DELHI: India has initiated an anti-circumvention investigation to consider extension of existing anti-dumping duty on imports of axle for trailers from China.

In 2018, India had imposed an anti-dumping duty on axle for trailers from $0.14-0.46 per kg imported from China for five years.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies on Tuesday said it has received information from Commissioner of Customs (Imports), Nhava Sheva that the anti-dumping duty is being circumvented as the product is being imported in semi and completely knocked down (SKD/CKD) form and thereafter being assembled.

The authority said that the prima facie evidence indicates circumvention of the duty, value addition of less than threshold stipulated to convert parts of trailer axles to axle for trailers, and Undermining of the efficacy of the anti-dumping duty.

The period of investigation for the investigation is FY20 and the injury period will cover the FY17-20.
