Union Budget 2019: What women got from Sitharaman's budget

Modi government had initiated various measures for women during its first five years, as had Jaitley in his budgets.

From Nari to Narayani: Government wishes to encourage, facilitate role of women
The Budget 2019 presented today by India's first full-time woman Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made some significant announcements for women.

The budget brought big focus on women empowerment, proposing to set up a high-level committee to suggest more ways.

Sitharaman said there was no segment where the contribution of women was not significant.

In a boost for women self-help groups, Sitharaman announced the expansion of the interest subvention programme to all districts.

Every woman SHG member having a verified Jan Dhan account will get an overdraft facility of Rs 5,000, it was announced.

There was also an announcement on a Rs 1,00,000 loan for women under the Mudra scheme.

Piyush Goyal's interim budget did not have anything specific on women, other than the announcement that over 70% of MUDRA beneficiaries were women and that maternity leave of 26 weeks and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana for pregnant women were helping beneficiaries significantly.

Modi government had initiated various measures for women during its first five years, as had Jaitley in his budgets.

BJP, in their poll manifesto, promised to provide collateral-free credit of up to Rs 50 lakh for entrepreneurs, out of which 50% of the loan amount will be guaranteed towards female entrepreneurs.

In his 2018 Budget, Jaitley increased the scope of the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Scheme to provide free connection to 8 crore poor women from an earlier target of 5 crore.
