In Uttar Pradesh, Azam Khan won the Rampur constituency by over one lakh votes. He had attracted widespread ire for his sexist jibes against his one-time colleague and actor-politician Jaya Prada, his rival on the seat who joined the BJP before the election.

“People of Rampur, people of Uttar Pradesh and people of India, it took you 17 years to understand her reality. But I could recognise in 17 days that she wears khaki underwear," he said, without naming her.

Khan is facing an FIR for the remark, has got 5,59,177 votes against Jaya Prada who has got 4,49,180 votes.

Azam Khan secured his seat that has been his bastion since 1980. Khan has won nine terms in the state Assembly from here. This is the first time he is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from this constituency that saw some of the worst acrimonious exchanges between Jaya Prada Nahata and Khan. Sanjay Kapoor of Congress is the other key candidate.

The constituency is currently held by Dr Nepal Singh of BJP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Dr Nepal Singh beat Naseer Ahmad Khan of SP.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Nepal Singh of BJP won this seat by defeating the SP candidate Naseer Ahmad Khan and Congress candidate Nawab Kazim Ali Khan. In 2009, Jaya Prada Nahata of SP emerged victorious by defeating the Congress candidate Begum Noor Bano Urf Mehtab Zamani Begum and BSP's Ghan Shyam Singh Lodhi.
