Zomato revises Gold scheme, but eateries to stay logged out
Days after food delivery giant Zomato offered a proposal to The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) amending its terms for Zomato Gold, its CEO Deepinder Goyal announced that the Gurgaon-based company is logging out of the logout campaign on social media.

"Zomato is logging out of the logout campaign. We have said enough and we are getting back to work. I am confident better business sense will prevail at the end," said Goyal in the tweet.

In a series of tweets he said that few restaurant owners and Rahul Singh, the NRAI President, seem to be using the platform to “sabotage aggregators and benefit themselves.”

In the tweet, Goyal posted pictures of terms and conditions of a separate Gold membership offered by the Singh-owned Beer Cafe and offering an explanation by statating “Here’s what I think is going on.”

He further tweeted, “It’s not about aggregators vs restaurant; this is about a small restaurant owner vs the the large restaurant owner- and we are being painted as bullies.”

This comes after member-restaurants launched a logout campaign claiming that the Zomato Gold programme enabled unsustainable deep discounting. The campaign was led by NRAI, which has nearly half a million members.

On Tuesday, a meeting was held between Zomato and the NRAI in which the latter rejected Zomato’s ten steps to improve the Gold membership programme. This included restricting Gold usage to once a day and allowing only two Gold opens a table. The food aggregator even offered the restaurants, who had logged out, a free entry back into the system. However, NRAI wasn’t pleased and has decided to remain outside the programme.
