According to a news report, employees at L1 level would be promoted to L2 level and L2 staff would be promoted to L3.
Wipro will promote over 5,000 employees by December as it looks to retain crucial younger talent with digital skills within its fold in a market that is witnessing high demand for such professionals, similar to the early 2000's.

Wipro and its peers such as Infosys have seen high attrition in the three-five year experience level as there is a global demand for people with such skills. With more customers of these IT services companies shifting to digital technology such as cloud computing led or artificial intelligence driven operations; companies are rushing to bridge the skills gap.

Besides rival IT services companies, global firms that are setting up captives in India are poaching people with digital skills and ramping up their teams in the country.

Saurabh Govil, president and chief human resources officer at Wipro told ET that the 5,000 people promotion is in addition to the good hikes that were given to people with digital skills.

Wipro had paid retention bonus of Rs one lakh to freshers who were hired from campuses and have completed one year with the company.

Wipro has reduced attrition in the quarter to Septmber to 17%, lower than previous quarters.
