Keeping a tab on your financial history helps and accessing them once a year will help you reinforce your financial position.
Did you know that you can get one free credit report from credit bureaus every year? Back in September 2016, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had mandated every credit information company (CIC) in the country to release one free full credit report (FFCR) to every individual starting from January 1, 2017.

You can apply for the free report and score once a year between January and December from one of the four CICs, i.e., Equifax, Experian, CRIF High Mark, and CIBIL TransUnion.

All four maintain detailed records of your credit history, including repayment track record of all your credit card bills and any current or previous loans.

Here's how to get them from each one of them:

Experian
From where to download: Website
To access your FFCR and score from Experian, log on to its website or click here to access the page and enter a few details such as name, mobile number, Permanent Account Number (PAN), email, and date of birth.

Within 48 hours (actually, less than 12 hours), a voucher code will be emailed to you -- keep this handy. The process is simple and self-explanatory.

Further, there will be a link emailed to you. By clicking on it, you will be taken to a page where other details have to be filled in. You may be prompted to answer a few queries about your loan such as: Who is your housing loan with? What is the loan amount sanctioned to you for this housing loan?

Again, a link will be emailed to you for verification and after typing in the voucher code, your FFCR will be displayed. A copy of this will also be emailed to you.

Equifax

From where to download: App
To get your FFCR from Equifax, download the Equifax India App from Google Play Store or the iOS App Store. Once downloaded, you have to provide your email ID and create a 6-digit PIN to access the app.

Thereafter, you have to provide your personal information and Aadhaar card number to authenticate your identity. You have to then again access the app in about 6-12 hours and provide verification based on your personal loan or credit card details. For the purpose of verification, the query could be: You hold the card of which issuer?
In the next 12 hours, the report will be emailed to you.

What you should do
Credit bureaus are supposed to share the full report and not just give you the credit score. If you need the report and the CIC does not share it with you, write to them citing the RBI rule. Keeping a tab on your financial history helps and accessing them once a year will help you reinforce your financial position before you venture out for another loan the next time.
