Retirement fund body, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recently launched a WhatsApp helpline service for EPF members.

According to the press release issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment on October 13, 2020, "This facility has been given in addition to the various other means of grievance redressal forums of EPFO which include web-based EPFiGMS portal, CPGRAMS, social media pages (Facebook & Twitter) and a dedicated 24x7 call centre."

The press statement added, "WhatsApp helpline is now functional in all the 138 regional offices of EPFO. Any stakeholder can simply file grievance or seek guidance on any queries relating to services provided by EPFO, by putting a WhatsApp message on the helpline number of the concerned regional office where the PF account is maintained. Dedicated WhatsApp Helpline numbers of all regional offices are available on homepage of EPFO's official website."

How to use WhatsApp helpline service
To resolve a complaint regarding your EPF account via WhatsApp, you will first need to know the location of your branch office. The WhatsApp Helpline has different numbers for different branch offices. For instance, if your regional office is in Central Delhi, then the WhatsApp Helpline number is 8178457507. If your regional office is located in South Delhi, then the WhatsApp Helpline number is 9717547174.

The complete list of regional offices that have dedicated WhatsApp helpline numbers can be accessed here.

How to know your regional office
As mentioned above, each regional office has a different WhatsApp Helpline number. Therefore, it is important for you to know with which regional office you have your EPF account. Here's how you can locate the regional office.

Step 1: Go to www.epfindia.gov.in
Step 2: Under the tab 'Services', select 'For Employers'.
Step 3: A new webpage will open on your screen. Under the 'Services' tab, select 'Establishment Search'.
Step 4: A new webpage will open on your screen where details can be searched using part of the establishment's name and/or establishment code number (only 7 digits). Enter the details and captcha code in the designated columns and click on 'Search'. 'Establishment' is the organisation you are working for. Remember, even if you do not have establishment code of your organisation, you can search it via name also.

If more than one result shows up, then check the address mentioned on your EPF statement with the address mentioned on your screen to select the correct establishment by clicking on 'View Details'.

It will show the details of the establishment, i.e., establishment code, establishment status (exemption status), EPFO office name, EPFO Office address etc.

The address will help you locate the WhatsApp number from the list to resolve your query. Remember, the facility is available only for 138 regional offices, thus, you may not find your regional office in the list for now.

Further, you will get a revert in the form of a reply on your WhatsApp number itself, just like how the EPFO replies to complaints on its social media handles.

EPFO has not given details regarding the format in which members have to send in their complaints using the WhatsApp helpline number.
